The problem

Anodes, oil, filters, antifoul: a boat gets a careful list of jobs before it goes back in the water. The fuel in the tank gets none of them. It simply stands, season after season, breathing damp air through the vent every time the temperature moves, and it is the thing most likely to stop the engine when you are relying on it.

The fix

Fuelnox is a conditioner for fuel that waits. Pour it in and it keeps working while the boat does not: holding the fuel stable as it stands, keeping the fuel system clean and dealing with the water that finds its way in, so what you left in the tank is still worth burning when you come back to it.

Three ways marine fuel goes bad.

01

Condensation

Warm air is drawn into the tank as fuel is used, then cools overnight. Its moisture condenses on the cold tank walls and runs down beneath the fuel, where nothing burns it off.

Ethanol blends

E10 petrol takes moisture straight out of the air. Absorb enough of it and the ethanol drops out of the petrol altogether, leaving a wet layer on the bottom that will not burn.

Long lay-ups

Fuel left standing turns gummy and drops sludge. The water that has gathered beneath it sits there all winter, pitting the tank from the inside and waiting to be pulled into the filters on your first trip out.

Ferries, cargo ships, cruise liners, support vessels and naval craft carry fuel in volumes that turn over slowly. Fuelnox goes in at bunkering, so it mixes through as the tank fills and travels with the fuel into every day tank drawn from it.

Dependable starts, far from help

An engine that will not start is an inconvenience alongside and a serious problem three hours out. Fuelnox works on the part of the engine most likely to let you down out there: the fuel going into it.

Absorbs the water, and burns cleaner for it

Rather than let water settle out, Fuelnox holds it in the fuel as microscopic droplets. In the cylinder they flash to steam and burst, breaking the fuel around them into a finer spray that burns more completely. The water leaves with the exhaust, and a liability turns into a small gain.

Clean injectors & carbs

Detergents lift the gums and varnish that build up in diesel systems and two-stroke outboards. Added lubricity helps protect pumps and injectors, which matters now that low-sulphur fuel no longer lubricates them the way it once did.

Nothing standing in the bottom of the tank

Free water gathers under the fuel, corroding the tank from the inside and loading the filters with the sludge it carries. Fuelnox takes that water up into the fuel instead, so the layer never forms.

Cleaner running, less smoke

Less unburnt fuel means less soot on the transom, less haze over the water and a cleaner engine bay to work in. Your neighbours in the marina will notice as well.

Clean chemistry, plainly stated

No sulphur, phosphorus, nitrogen or metallic ingredients, and nothing ash-forming. Not classified as corrosive to metals. It carries EU CLP labelling: handle as directed, keep it out of reach of children, and never empty it over the side.

Lay-up & launch

From long lay-ups to your first trip out.

On the last trip of the season, double-dose the tank and run the engine for a few minutes so treated fuel reaches the injectors before the boat sleeps. At launch, a normal dose with the first fill puts you straight back on the maintenance routine.

  • Petrol, diesel and two-stroke outboards
  • Inboards, sail-drives, gensets and tenders
  • Gentle on seals, hoses and after-treatment
  • Leave the tank full: less air space means less damp air

Simple to dose.

Just two doses. A stronger first treatment gets things clean, then a light top-up each time you bunker keeps them there. Overdosing will not harm the engine.

First Treatment

Shock dose

1:2000

About 20 ml per 40 litres of fuel. Add Fuelnox first, then refuel so it mixes evenly as the tank fills. Repeat where contamination is heavy.

Ongoing

Maintenance dose

1:4000

About 10 ml per 40 litres at each refuel or regular interval. A single 500 ml bottle conditions up to 2,000 litres of fuel.

Results vary with engine, fuel and operating conditions. For petrol, diesel and two-stroke fuel systems. Not for aviation fuels.
